New International Airport to Begin Construction in Colon

Works to build a new international airport in the Panamanian province of Colon are due to begin in April 2010 and reach completion at the end of November 2011. The first phase of the project is estimated to cost US$40 million. The new airport will replace the current regional airport which is in a state of disrepair. The airport will service users of the Colon Free Zone, the world’s second largest free trade zone and this hemisphere’s largest.
